THE JERSEY CAPE SHORELINE IS CHANNELING FIFA EXCITEMENT STRAIGHT TO THE SAND

This summer, as the FIFA World Cup 2026 electrifies stadiums across North America, the Jersey Cape shoreline is channeling that global excitement straight to the sand. From Ocean City to Cape May Point, the beaches are evolving into vibrant soccer playgrounds where the spirit of the tournament meets the rhythm of a seaside getaway.

Long known for beach yoga, sunrise workouts, and coastal wellness retreats, the Jersey Cape is embracing a new wave of athletic energy. Families are organizing friendly matches at low tide, kids are practicing penalty kicks between their sandcastles, and beachgoers inspired by the World Cup are trading flip-flops for footwork drills in the afternoon sun. With miles of soft sand and sparkling coastline, it’s the perfect place to kick off your own World Cup-style fun.

Few destinations are better suited for beach sports than Wildwood, where the seemingly endless shoreline sets the stage for some of the region’s most dynamic athletic events. The annual Cape Express Beach Blast returns with its popular five-on-five format, drawing players of all ages for fast-paced soccer action. Tournaments take place June 27–28 and July 18–19, with matches held on the beach between Spencer and Poplar avenues.

Wildwood’s sands are also home to a full roster of summer competitions. Morey’s Piers hosts its Beach Jam volleyball tournament May 29–31 at Pigdog Beach, and casual volleyball nets are strung up at resorts all along the coast for pick-up games. Flag football players hit the sand July 11–12 for the Battle at the Beach, welcoming youth and adult teams ready for fast, high-energy play.

Baseball lovers can get in on the action too, with two beach tournaments scheduled for August 7–9 and August 14–17. Field hockey players step into the spotlight August 1–2 for Sticks in the Sand, adapting traditional play to the beach with softer balls designed for sunny, sandy conditions. Even basketball makes its mark with a three-on-three tournament on August 1–2, where expert passing and energetic dunks replace dribbling.

And one of the biggest beach sporting events in the world returns each July: the Wildwood Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, attracting more than 500 teams from across the globe for coed four-on-four competition stretching from Montgomery to Schellenger avenues.

For visitors who prefer their fitness at their own pace, the Jersey Cape’s runs, walks, and scenic shoreline provide endless opportunities to stay active while soaking in ocean views.

As the world celebrates the largest sporting event on the planet, Cape May County invites you to bring the excitement to the beach. Whether you’re joining a tournament, playing a casual pick-up game, or simply cheering from your beach chair, it’s the perfect season for sun, sand, and spirited competition.
